Fashion Week equals frenzied glamour, anticipation of trends and fashion parades on and off the runway. And for Mumbai’s fashion pack, all roads lead to the Grand Hyatt for the last six days; it was Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013, after all! Strutting to its own unique cycle, LFW showcases styles for the season we are currently in, hence reducing the time lag between runway to retail. We report back with all the high-octane glamour that went down plus some hot-off-the-runway looks that India is gushing about this season.
Gone are the days when spring prints translated only into feminine florals; quirky prints are the ones to swear by according to the LFW runways! We spotted table fan prints at Masaba, fish prints at Surendri by Yogesh Chaudhary and raging dogs at Ragini Ahuja! Also making an appearance were optical, geometrical, striped and swirly motifs.
A TALE OF TRADITION
Fashion went back to its Indian roots by reviving a host of traditional weaves, particularly khadi. But make no mistake, this in no way spells boring or bland. A traditional fabric with an Indo-western spin was the tune labels like Krishna Mehta, Akaaro and Shubham Kumar were humming.
Shehlaa by Shehla Khan
Unabashedly sexy was the order of the week as everyone from Shehla Khan and Nishka Lulla to Bhairavi Jaikishan and Sailex played hide-and-seek with this see-through style; whether in the form of skirts and saris or long jackets, cover ups, and tops.
Sprinkling a generous dose of vibrancy to the Spring/Resort runway was the captivating cocktail of bright colors used by the likes of Manish Malhotra, Namrata Joshipura, Stephany D’Souza and others. It’s time to paint the town pop!
Surendri by Yogesh Chaudhary
The runway was invaded by styles that accentuated the waist, and it wasn’t just maxi skirts, pants and tops that received the cinched-waist treatment. The most buzz worthy trend to emerge was the belted sari. We can’t wait to try this on at our next wedding soiree!
How can any SS ’13 showing be complete without an appearance by the season’s most sought after monochrome trend? The top rung of Indian designers gave us plenty of black and white styles to lust after.
Pants suits for summer? Heck yes! This Nikhil Thampi ensemble with cheery yellow pants, a seriously sexy blazer topped off with a broad metallic belt is just what we need to satiate our fashion cravings this season.
May the best fashion find you.
