The birthstone for August is the peridot, its signature shade of green is a playful, olive’y lime that feels young and fabulous. And fashionable for a while, judging by the amount of it on the coolest Resort 2015 runways. What we found particularly interesting was not only the wide variety of different greens the various designers embraced, but the inspiration that drew them to use the hue in their collections.
Christian Siriano’s peachy, beachy peridot-green print (top) was inspired by the work of a young, Charleston-based painter he collects, Teil Duncan (those are her paintings behind the models). Juxtaposed against his structured silhouettes, Siriano’s painterly pistachio’ish pastels create an easy-breezy feel that ‘s perfect for warm weather.
First (and possibly most important) the gorgeous safari’ish lace-up peep-toes at 3.1 Phillip Lim (must, must have!) reminded us to head out immediately for a matching pedi and mani. We love the treasure trove of green colors to choose from by Zoya.

Green showed up on many of our favorite runways. Carolina Herrera saved the best ‘til last, waiting until the end of her show to unveil the a glamorous 30s silhouette covered in the biggest, boldest and most bodacious floral print…perhaps ever. Which made Frida Giannini’s green look positively demure (Carolina more splashy than Gucci?! An odd twist, no?) “I went beyond the flower box,” explains artist Kris Knight, who collaborated on the Gucci collection, and for inspiration, chose “botanicals that either blossomed at night, dawn, or dusk, but also chose plants that have strong roots for adaptability, persistence, and resistance in harsh environments.” Anna Sui took green in a more vintage direction that illustrated her inspiration for the season, Anna’s Favorite Things. In serious magpie mode, Sui cruised the decades and eras, picking up touches from eras far apart – both timewise and in feeling – from the Victorian to the sexy 70s. And Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz sure does love his black, but noted in a backstage interview that “we need colors.” His floor-length frock in a classic hunter green absolutely qualifies as needful.
Lime and peridot green are fun to wear and look great paired with other sultry shades of fern, frond and foliage. The freshest way we think you can wear it now is in a tropical print – which will continue to be a strong fashion trend well into 2015.
Why not integrate some of this sunny shade into your own closet this year? Our Louvre cuff and matching ring make for an elegantly edgy set (especially with the matching Zoya mani). Slip on a pair of ISHARYA matching earrings for ready-set, boho-chic flair, be it with a floral playsuit and straw topper or your most romantic white sundress or maxi. It also never hurts to keep a Cabana Boy on hand to bring you refreshing, umbrella’d beverages on demand.
