Imagine flipping a switch and having a machine instantly create a pair of custom made earrings just for you. Designer duo Radhika and Gaurika Tandon are making this fantasy a reality with their new 3D printed jewellery collection. Inspired by the Sahasraha Chakra (the highest chakra in meditation), the designers who started their brand Isharya in 2004, recently launched their first-ever 3D accessory line titled Infinite Petals in Mumbai. Expect to find a range of pieces like earrings, necklaces and cuffs made from gold-plated nylon or resin.

Filigree Fantasy

“We really wanted to create a standout collection that set us apart from other brands in the market,” says co-founder Gauri Tandon, who is based out of Mumbai. The collection that is the brand’s Spring Summer release, features floral motifs in gold-plated brass filigree designs and soft resin hues of pink, tangerine, lime green, cream, blue and mother of pearl. Priding itself on creating intricately handcrafted pieces, the brand that is based in California and Mumbai, uses a range of Indian jewellery craft techniques like filigree, enamelling and polki across its collections. “Though we work with American, European, Middle Eastern and Asian markets, our inspiration is essentially Indian. Our signature design is our polki pieces where mirrors are hand cut like uncut diamonds to create dramatic statement pieces,” shares California-based co-founder, Radhika Tandon.

While the brand is one among the first to make use of the technology in the country, Gauri admits that the collection was in the pipeline for about a year with various stages of prototyping and edits along the way. Created entirely from Nylon the jewellery is either directly printed or cast in brass and then finished by hand. “The result is creating intricate and lightweight jewellery that was not possible with our previous handcrafted jewellery lines,” she reveals.

Memory for keeps

With patrons like Cindy Crawford, Zoe Saldana and Kim Kardashian, one would assume that a red carpet moment would top the duo’s favourite memories associated with their brand. Instead, Gauri says with a laugh, “I was shopping in the shoe department at Selfridges in London when I saw a woman wearing an Isharya necklace. It was our statement druzy bib necklace. The moment could not have been more surreal.”

Suited for both Indian ethnic and western silhouettes, the designers suggest cold shoulder and ruffled tops for the resin chokers from the collection, while the filigree pieces which are dramatic and bold are best teamed up evening wear or traditional clothes.

The collection is priced at Rs 4,000 upwards and is available at Evoluzione alongside their earlier collections like Arinna Reborn, Angel Dust and Pasha. Details: 28333627
