In keeping with the feeling of renewal that March brings, the month that officially denotes the beginning of Spring boasts two beautiful birthstone reminders of better weather: the blue skies and freedom of the open ocean in blue/green aquamarine and organic green combined with earthiness of bloodstone.

Both color schemes graced the Jean Paul Gaultier catwalk for Spring 2015, marking the designer’s first time on the runway since closing his prêt-à-porter arm last September and therefore eagerly anticipated by insiders.
And even if the setting was that exclusive club known as the Haute Couture, JPG was his usual tongue-in-cheek, chic self. When “It” model Lindsey Wixson sashayed out in a beekeeper’s hat wearing coveralls that were also a tutu, the crowd cheerily happily. They rowdily approved of the hybrid look that was half tailored menswear suit and half draped dress, cheekily dubbed To Bi or Not to Bi. Along with the male/female mashups, sequin-embellished prints – like python – exposed boning and voluminous cages made from crinoline, the show featured not one but several dozen brides. Christened 61 Ways to Say Yes (61 Façons de Se Dire Oui), this collection featuring a bevy of brides in tulle, leather, lace, shorts, jeans… plus eternal supermodel Naomi Campbell closing the show festooned with live orchids and wrapped in cellophane – a bridal bouquet on two legs!

By way of explanation, the designer offered up the undead. “They are very couture vampires,” he explained about the inspiration for Spring/Summer 2015. “That is to say, made with beautiful materials, they are very luxurious, embellished everywhere in bohemian crystal and embroidered. A with knitted mink and brooches as well.” Plus silk/velvet-lined running jackets and sweatpants. “So my vampires go jogging,” he added, “but it’s luxury jogging,”
Silly, yes, but quintessential JPG. And some designers get a hallpass from fash insiders because…well, they just do. Probably because they’re just so much fun and don’t take it all so seriously. (After all, what’s not to love about a pack of uber-glam vampires, “jogging” in sparkly silk velvet and mink-trimmed sweatpants?) But because this show was so eagerly awaited, watched and covered by editors, writers, stylists, celebs and rich fashionistas (such as the well-heeled Mouna Ayoub), expect it to strongly influence the fashion editorials and presentations in magazines, e-zines and in stores.
The takeaway from this couture outing, we think, is JPG’s focus on new beginnings. We, of course, love new beginnings and especially love to celebrate them with jewelry!
Here are some of our personal favorite Isharya treasures in March’s aquamarine and bloodstone hues:
This shimmering gift from the sea mixes the lightness of aquamarine with deep emerald and shimmering iridescent blue for a piece that will looks on-trend and its own trend. Especially with your summery whites.
The earthy green and sea blue of these sweet drops are an understated way to bring the bling when you’re wearing chic neutrals.
Green Amazonite is a seagreen color with small flecks of white. Bound to bring out the inner sea-goddess in you, wear it with white or neutral tans to bring a beautiful balance of air and earth.
