From reading our past posts you know that we can never miss a trip to Bergdorf’s whenever we are in New York! So we were floored when we were invited to the screening of Scatter My Ashes At Bergdorf’s, the new film that takes a peek into the ultra glamorous world of Bergdorf Goodman.
The documentary delves deep into the history, inner workings and untold stories behind the store’s rise from a modest ladies’ tailor shop to a mirror of contemporary culture. For the first time audiences get an all access glimpse into everything from the magical window displays that have a life of their own; the excruciatingly discerning selection of the best designers on the planet, and unsurpassed customer service.
We loved the storyline filled with personal anecdotes from our favorite fashion icons including Karl Lagerfeld, Oscar De La Renta, Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg, Georgina Chapman, Christian Louboutin and more. Each with their own memory of Bergdorf’s and what the store means to them.
It was definitely interesting to see the amount of work that goes behind the scenes of the stores famed holiday windows, which are almost like theatrical spectacles, comparable to a Broadway set.
The movie takes us from the conception of the idea led by creative director David Hoey to the grand reveal. It’s mesmerizing to see how much detail and thought goes behind the process and how they appeal to all walks of life.
Another notable bit from the film was Betty, Bergdorf’s infamously feisty personal shopper. Her sharp as a knife attitude, keen sense of style and $60,000 sales have made her an icon. She is so intriguing that Lena Dunham is creating a HBO show around her!
The movie really solidifies everything what we already know about Bergdorf’s— the glamour, the elegance and especially the magic! It’s a wonderland of fashion that we all dream of owning a piece of one day.
The film hits theaters on May 2, you won’t want to miss it! Until then check out the trailer above.
Until next time…
